Things I’ve learnt from Beauty and the Beast
Have you been to see the new
Beauty and the Beast film yet? Oh
my!!! You should NEED to go. I’ve always been a massive Disney lover and
growing up, I always thought I was a Cinderella kinda girl, I mean who doesn’t
want to be the ultimate Disney princess, but now…I have a new favourite. I went with my family (also massive Disney
lovers) to see the new release a few nights after it came out in cinemas. Ahh I want to go see it again. I have been listening to the soundtrack
since.
But on a more serious note, I
believe there are a few things we can take away from this amazing story.
Be
yourself, be yourself, be yourself.
(Do you see what I’ve done there ^ ‘Be our
guest, be our guest, be our guest.’)
Belle was totally different from everyone else
in her village, making her a bit of an outcast.
She yearned for adventure outside of the small village in which she lived, due to her love
of reading she was intelligent, imaginative and had a very open mind. She refuses to be undermined, mistreated and
controlled. Belle looks past peoples
appearances and looks for what lies within – so long Gaston!
Beauty
fades.
Dating someone just because of their attractive
appearance isn’t enough. Who wants to
pine after the hot jerk that everyone else is after. Find your own diamond in the rough. Belle never gave in to Gaston’s advances, she wasn't fooled by his charm. Find the beauty within, it will last much
longer.
Always look for the best in people.
He locked Belle’s father in
a dungeon for picking a rose. He had a dreadful
temper. He was rude. He was pretty much a monster. So our first impression of the Beast would be
enough to turn anyone off. But not
Belle. Even though she tried to run
away, she stayed around long enough after being rescued by the Beast, to find
that deep down, behind his beastly appearance, he was lonely, afraid, fragile,
lost. Everyone has something good to
offer, we just need to be like Belle, patient, kind and understanding to bring
out people’s kinder sides. Sometimes your belief in someone and your encouragement can be enough to bring out the better
side of them.
We can all be heroes.
So often in films it’s the
beautiful, brave man that rescues a damsel in distress. Not this time. Belle saved the day more than once. She took her father’s place in the cell, she went
to warn the Beast about the villagers, and she saved the Beast from self-destruction
and the spell. Can I just point out, she
did all this wearing a pretty dress! From
Belle we really learn the power of kindness, compassion and having courage to
stand up for what is right. We can all
show kindness and compassion and we can all have courage. So often I find examples of true kindness in
children. You are never too old or too
young to be the hero.
Is there anything else that
you have learnt from the story of Beauty and the Beast? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
